As a Mum of 4 handsome boys (biased of course!) I am passionate about childbirth and every aspect that goes with it. I believe that a woman has the right to be well informed and to choose the birth they desire.
The birth of my first son started with an induction and posterior baby. It was long, hard and at times scary for hubby and myself. I came away from the experience with a beautiful healthy baby boy and a deep feeling of self doubt, fear and a desire to influence my next birth experience for the better. When my third son was 13months old I heard about Doulas through a family member and knew that was where I needed to be so I signed up for Doula training in 2006 with Australian Doulas. I have no doubt that the birth of my fourth son who was born in water in hospital just cemented for me just how wonderful and empowering birth can really be.
I have been the South West Regional Representative for the last six years and am now a Facilitator for Doula training held once a year in Bunbury.
Childbirth is the most amazing journey for a man and woman to take. As a doula, I hope to make it an empowering and positive experience while creating a soothing and calming environment. Every birth I attend reaffirms to me how amazing womens bodies are and how we are all true birth warriors. My thirst for knowledge has me reading anything and everything about birth that I can get my hands on, but my biggest lessons come from being with birthing women and I love that I always learn something new.
I consider it a privilege to be able to support women and their partners through the most amazing experience of their lives. To see the look of ecstatic pride on a mum and dads face as they see their new baby for the first time is the ultimate reward.
