I have given birth to 4 gorgeous children in 5 1/2 years
and each of my births
have been unique and very different. I have experienced 3 vaginal births and
one caesarean birth. As a result, I have come to appreciate the
importance of an empowered birth experience and the importance of continuous
support and care during that time.
During my time as a Doula, I am gaining a greater admiration for all women
and for what our bodies have been created to do. I find the human spirit
an
amazing and powerful force and have seen that evident in the women with
whom I have assisted. I consider it a privilege to work along side of
a woman's partner and sensitively work together to help the women through
her birth experience.
I have had experience in VBAC, hospital and home water births, and am
always honoured to be invited to take part of any birth. I also have had
experience in post-birth doula care and love working with mother, new
baby and family. I consider it a real privilege to be part of family's
lives and helping with the adjustment that comes with a new baby.
A Letter from a Client...
Dear Tam
I am very grateful to have had you as my Doula during my pregnancy and
most
importantly, at the birth of our beautiful baby girl, Zosia. I was so
reassured by the fact that you had experienced 4 births of your own and
you
understood my feelings completely. You shared our excitement, calmed my
fears, helped me focus and reassured me even before the day of the birth!
When the day of Zosia's birth finally arrived, I was so relieved to see
you
walk through the front door and you were such a help to me during the
contractions. I loved the way you counted through each contraction and
helped me to focus on my breathing technique. Having you arrive also added
to the excitement of the day, knowing that it was really happening now
that
"Tam" had come over!
I cannot thank you enough for always staying by my side, comforting and
supporting me, and constantly being aware of my needs. It was great that
you were there to remind me of some of the things I hadn't tried or had
forgotten about.
It was also very reassuring for Andrew to know that I had someone who
cared
and was experienced to help me, and it was great that you explained to
him
what was happening at the different stages of the process. This allowed
him
to step back when he needed to and to be there when he felt comfortable
enough. His feelings were very important to me and I am so grateful for
the
way you supported us in this.
Thank you so much for literally being my "pillar of strength",
as I pushed
Zosia into this world. It was such a special and exhilarating moment and
I
am so glad I had someone as kind and caring as you to share it with. It
was
lovely to have you visit me at home after the birth and to talk about
what
had happened (you filled in quite a few blanks for me)! The letter you
wrote Zosia is so beautiful and it makes me very emotional to think about
the day when I can give it to her, as she is embarking upon her own pregnancy
journey.
I think it is of great credit to you that both the midwives who attended
Zosia's birth visited me in my hospital room afterwards to thank me for
being able to share such a beautiful experience! I just could not have
done
it without you Tam. You helped me achieve my dream of having a drug free,
joyful labour (third time lucky I guess)!
If you ever need me to be a referee for you, it would be my pleasure.
You
will always have a special place in my heart Tam and thank you again so
much for being our "Doula Extraordinaire"!
Misia Caulton
